Allen was born in November 1958.  Allen's father was Johannes (John) Kangas and his mother was Kathleen G Furby.  His paternal grandfather was Nicholas Kangas and his paternal grandmother is <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were William  A Furby and Syble I Peterson. He has two sisters named Gertrude and Margaret.  He is the youngest of the three children.
